Hear from our Scholars!

From Scholar to Board Member - Amalia's Journey of Giving Back

Amalia Perez has seen all sides of Palmer Scholars' operations. As a former Scholar herself,  Amalia is committed to helping Scholars who have similar experiences as her through their postsecondary journeys. "We share the common care for the organization, the mission behind Merle Palmer and know the values it carries out in the everyday operations of the program. But more importantly, we each bring something unique to the table that is necessary to continue Merle’s legacy and contribute to developing our board more and more in the future."

“Long known for making  immeasurable impacts in the lives of young people, I am excited that Palmer Scholars will be expanding their programs to offer pathways into a broader variety of living wage careers in addition to four-year degrees. The work being done by Palmer Scholars is fundamental to ensuring that all our youth have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.”

-Victoria Woodards, Mayor of the City of Tacoma

Learn More About our Work!

At Palmer Scholars, we are committed to helping our Scholars achieve their dreams of a better life through higher education. We know through experience that our work cannot stop after scholarship checks go out. Our “Whole Scholar” model is a holistic approach that provides opportunities for our committed staff, board, and community volunteers to support Scholars in most all areas of life, beyond what is generally encapsulated in college access programs.
