What does it mean to be a Palmer Scholar?
Be a junior in high school Fall of 2017
Identify as a person of color, bi– or multi-racial
Actively involved and a leader in school and the community
Minimum 2.0 GPA
Pell Grant or Free/Reduced Lunch eligible*
*Some exceptions may apply and a written statement must be included in the application to explain your financial situation
How can I determine my financial aid?
Following the steps in the application, you will complete the FAFSA4CASTER to determine your family’s expected family contribution (EFC). The demonstrated financial need for your family’s EFC should be $5,920 or less. You may also submit a written explanation of why you believe you have significant financial need in the event that your EFC exceeds this amount.
What is the commitment?
Attend one to two trainings per month between spring semester junior year through the summer after graduating high school.
Trainings are during the week in the evenings and dinner is provided.
Attend Palmer Scholar events throughout your time as a Scholar.
Be an active participant at all trainings and events.
What are the benefits of being a Palmer Scholar?
One and a half years of college readiness and life skills training.
A Palmer Scholar Mentor from senior year in high school through college graduation.
Up to $5,000 in scholarship per year for up to five years towards higher education.
Networking, internship, and job opportunities.
