Opening Doors, Building Futures: Our First Pathways Open House

There’s something powerful about inviting others into your space to share your work, your mission, and the people who make it all come alive. Last week, we had the joy of hosting our very first Pathways Open House, and we’re still glowing with gratitude.

Guests from across our community joined us for an afternoon of connection, learning, and inspiration. The event began with a presentation highlighting our Palmer Scholars program which supports young people of color as they pursue college and career pathways, providing the guidance, resources, and community they need to thrive in higher education, the trades, and beyond. It was an opportunity to share not just the structure of the program, but the heart behind it: the belief that every young person deserves a clear path forward and the support to walk it with confidence.

One of the most memorable parts of the day was the tour of our tiny home builds, led by our instructor Ron alongside several of our talented scholars. Seeing the craftsmanship, collaboration, and pride in their work reminded all of us that this program is about so much more than learning a trade. It’s about growth, ownership, and the confidence that comes from building something real, both literally and personally.

We’re especially grateful to the partners, supporters, and guests who took the time to show up, ask thoughtful questions, and engage with our scholars. Events like this remind us how important it is to open our doors and share the work we’re doing. When our community understands what’s possible, they can be a part of making it happen.

This was just the beginning. We’re already looking forward to the next open house and to continuing to build strong connections with those who believe in the future we’re creating together.

Thank you for being part of the journey.

 SUPPORT OUR MISSION TODAY!

Palmer Scholars acknowledges that our work is carried out on, and our office space is located within, occupied Coast Salish land, specifically that of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians. We pay respect to Coast Salish Elders past and present and extend that respect to their descendants and to all Indigenous peoples. To acknowledge this land is to recognize its longer history and our place in that history; it is to recognize these lands and waters and their significance for the peoples who lived and continue to live in this region, whose practices and spiritualties were and are tied to the land and the water, and whose lives continue to enrich and develop in relationship to the land, waters, and other inhabitants today.

We also pause to recognize and acknowledge the labor upon which our country, state, and institutions are built.

We remember that our country is built on the labor of enslaved people who were kidnapped and brought to the U.S. from the African continent and recognize the continued contribution of their survivors. We also acknowledge all immigrant labor, including voluntary, involuntary, trafficked, forced, and undocumented peoples who contributed to the building of the country and continue to serve within our labor force. We acknowledge all unpaid care-giving labor.

To the people who contributed this immeasurable work and their descendants, we acknowledge our/their indelible mark on the spaces in which we operate today. It is our collective responsibility to critically interrogate these histories, to repair harm, and to honor, protect, and sustain this land.
