Stand Up and Cheer: Why This Moment Matters More Than Ever

Stand Up with community
STAND UP AND CHEER | MARCH 26 | 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

There are moments in time when showing up is more than attendance. It is an act of belief.

Stand Up and Cheer is not just an event. It is a declaration that in an ever-changing world, we choose opportunity. We choose community. We choose to invest in the brilliance of young people.

At Palmer Scholars, we work with young adults who have extraordinary potential but often face systemic barriers that make higher education, career pathways, and financial stability feel out of reach. Rising costs of living. Shifting workforce demands. Uncertainty in policy and funding. The landscape continues to evolve.

In times like these, support matters more than ever.

The Climate Our Scholars Are Navigating

Today’s young people are stepping into adulthood during a time of economic pressure, mental health challenges, and rapid workforce transformation. The path to stability is rarely linear, and for many students of color in Pierce County, it has never been equitable.

Our scholars are not asking for handouts. They are asking for access. For guidance. For someone to stand beside them and say, you belong here.

Through mentorship, workforce training, scholarships, and community, Palmer Scholars bridges the gap between potential and opportunity. We do not just celebrate graduation days. We walk alongside scholars through the in between moments, the doubt, the financial strain, the pivot, the perseverance.

Because legacy is not built overnight. It is built through consistent investment.

Why Stand Up and Cheer Matters

Stand Up and Cheer is where belief turns into action. When you attend. When you sponsor a table. When you make a gift. You are doing more than supporting an event. You are helping a first-generation college student stay enrolled when an unexpected bill arrives. You are helping a young adult complete pre-apprenticeship training and enter a living wage career in the trades. You are strengthening families and entire communities. In a world that often feels uncertain, this is something certain. Investment in young people creates generational change.

Legacy guides us. Growth drives us.

Those words are more than a theme. They are a commitment. We honor the legacy of those who paved the way before us by ensuring today’s scholars have the support to build something even greater. We drive growth by investing in skills, confidence, leadership, and long-term success.

Be Part of the Story

The challenges facing young people are real. The need is real. And so is the impact you can make. Stand Up and Cheer is your invitation to be part of something bigger than one event. It is an opportunity to invest in resilience, leadership, and hope. When we stand together, we send a powerful message. Opportunity should never be determined by circumstance. Potential deserves partnership. And legacy begins with us.

Join us. Support a scholar. Fuel the future.

 SUPPORT OUR MISSION TODAY!

Palmer Scholars acknowledges that our work is carried out on, and our office space is located within, occupied Coast Salish land, specifically that of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians. We pay respect to Coast Salish Elders past and present and extend that respect to their descendants and to all Indigenous peoples. To acknowledge this land is to recognize its longer history and our place in that history; it is to recognize these lands and waters and their significance for the peoples who lived and continue to live in this region, whose practices and spiritualties were and are tied to the land and the water, and whose lives continue to enrich and develop in relationship to the land, waters, and other inhabitants today.

We also pause to recognize and acknowledge the labor upon which our country, state, and institutions are built.

We remember that our country is built on the labor of enslaved people who were kidnapped and brought to the U.S. from the African continent and recognize the continued contribution of their survivors. We also acknowledge all immigrant labor, including voluntary, involuntary, trafficked, forced, and undocumented peoples who contributed to the building of the country and continue to serve within our labor force. We acknowledge all unpaid care-giving labor.

To the people who contributed this immeasurable work and their descendants, we acknowledge our/their indelible mark on the spaces in which we operate today. It is our collective responsibility to critically interrogate these histories, to repair harm, and to honor, protect, and sustain this land.
