Graduation is just the beginning. Our alumni are out in the world building careers, leading with purpose, and creating real impact. These spotlights highlight what’s possible when opportunity meets determination.
Koa. | Palmer Pathways Cohort 12 Graduate

Koa Vincenzo Keli-Nahaku joined Palmer Scholars in 2025 part of Pathways Cohort 12, bringing with him a strong interest in the trades and a determination to create a meaningful career path. During his time in the program, Koa immersed himself in learning, gaining hands-on experience and developing the skills needed to succeed in the trades.
“Palmer Scholars was a great experience. I learned a lot about the trades and the skills that come with it. They have set me up for success, and I am grateful,” he shared.
Today, Koa is taking the next step in his journey as a first-year Ironworker apprentice with Local 86 in Seattle. As he begins this new chapter, he’s excited about the opportunities ahead and the long-term career he’s building.
Koa’s path hasn’t been without challenges. After not passing his first ironworker evaluation, he didn’t give up. Instead, he put in the work, stayed committed, and earned his place on the second try, a moment that reflects his resilience and determination.
His advice to current and future Palmer Scholars is grounded in that experience:
Stay committed to your goals and don’t give up
Be willing to listen, learn, and ask questions
Keep your focus and don’t let distractions or emotions get in the way
“I am a testament to that,” Koa says, reflecting on his journey.
He also expressed deep gratitude for the support he’s received along the way. “I am thankful for all the support that I have had over these last 7 months. The Ironworkers union will take me far in life, and I’m excited to get started.”
Koa’s story is a powerful reminder that success isn’t always a straight path—but with persistence, support, and hard work, it’s always within reach.
